BINDER - Donated by Shane and Shirley Hogan.

Used to cut sheaf hay. Usually, oats were grown for animal feed. The green crop was cut and tied into sheafs by the binder and operator.

The sheaves were left laying in heaps of 8 to 10 bundles.  They were then put into stooks.  Sheaves were left standing up ready for drying and then carting by wagon into a stack near the stable.  The hay was usually cut by a chaff cutter to feed horses and cows.
